As much as this conflicts with earlier reports, the Wall Street Journal is claiming that the Google Phone is in fact called the Nexus One. That feels robotic-like, doesn’t it? A name that feels like it comes from the future and can go well with Android. One more thing that has been figured out with the Google Phone (or Nexus 1) is that it will be sold online, directly from Google.
I’ll be updating or writing new posts if anything new happens, in the meantime this is all you guys have to know, but if you’re really into it, here’s a quick recap of the Google Phone (HTC Passion, Nexus 1, or whatever it’s called.)
What we know so far about the Google Phone is in the list after the jump.
[Via WSJ]
1. It contains a Snapdragon processor, and is slightly lighter than the iPhone. The hardware is by HTC, which probably where it gets the name “Passion”.
2. It’s “a sexy beast” according to one report, and it’s being distrubuted worldwide to Google’s employees.
3. It’s a GSM based unlocked smartphone running a version of Android that is the “real Android”, and it’s one we’ve never seen before (it’s believed to be a special version of Android 2.1 that Google put their touches on).
4. Because of it being an unlocked, contract-free phone, it will be sold online by Google. Which carrier the Google Phone is on depends on which GSM-based carrier is selected (major contenders now are T-Mobile and AT&T.)
5. It should launch in January of 2010 under one of the names mentioned above.
Stay tuned for more later on the “Google Phone” as it develops.
