Microsoft fined $200 million in XML infringement while knowing it.

There are now many reports that a federal court in Texas has hit Microsoft with a $200 million fine for infringing on Canadian software firm i4i’s technology in Microsoft Word.
Microsoft edited XML tags in Microsoft Word 2003 and 2007 which violated the patent of Canadian company i4i. Insiders believe that Microsoft knew what they were doing and did nothing about it.

Microsoft has released this statement:
“We believe the evidence clearly demonstrated that we do not infringe and that the i4i patent is invalid. We believe this award of damages is legally and factually unsupported, so we will ask the court to overturn the verdict.”
